If you are new to counseling, you may be unsure of the process or what to expect. Let me share with you my philosophy on counseling.
I believe that in order for people to experience positive change in their lives they need to have a place where they can explore and develop new insights into themselves and their lives. In order to do this effectively, two things are needed.
First, it is essential to establish a strong and trusting connection between you and your therapist where you can feel supported, understood and empowered.
Second, therapy must take place in a non-judgmental environment that is enriched with genuineness and compassion, I believe that you are the expert of yourself and your own life and I see myself as a guide and a mirror, providing support and reflecting honest feedback to encourage growth and to help you reach your goals.
Therapy can bring up difficult challenges and sometimes painful issues, yet I believe that working through these challenges with the support of the right counselor, and in the right environment, has the potential to ultimately produce incredibly beneficial outcomes of healing, hope and positive change. In this case, I believe the benefits far outweigh the discomfort and challenges of exploring difficult issues.
My approach to counseling is collaborative, relational, compassionate, identity-affirming, culturally responsive and strengths based. I strive to be authentic and fully present in each of my sessions, giving you the time and attention you deserve. I see each person as an individual and I pull from a diverse set of researched based counseling theories and techniques to tailor therapy to your individual needs.
